Al-Mustaqbal University Wins “Athar” Award for Sustainable University Initiative

Al-Mustaqbal University (UOMUS) has achieved a new national milestone by receiving the prestigious “ATHAR” Award from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment. This award recognizes our pioneering leadership in advancing the Sustainable University Initiative and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education and community development.

The award was presented during an official ceremony organized by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Dr. Hallo Askari, Minister of Environment, and Prof. Dr. Hayder Abed Dhahad, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs at MOHESR, along with senior officials. Prof. Dr. Hayder Abed Dhahad praised UOMUS as a national model for sustainability, highlighting our remarkable achievement of ranking 1st globally in SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and within the 201–300 global band in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025.

The ATHAR Award crowns a series of impactful initiatives led by UOMUS in renewable energy, climate action, waste management, and sustainable cities. President Prof. Dr. Hasan Majdi emphasized that this national recognition reflects the University’s growing academic and humanitarian impact.
