Under the generous patronage of Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Babylon, and the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the university announced today — Saturday, October 17, 2025 — the results of the “AI for Sustainable Development Hackathon (HACKATHON)”, held as part of the activities of the “Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability” Camp.

This competition aligns with Al-Mustaqbal University’s strategic vision in the field of artificial intelligence, its commitment to digital transformation leadership, the promotion of the knowledge economy, and its mission to encourage student innovation in serving the community and advancing sustainable development.

The Hackathon aimed to motivate university students to design innovative AI-based solutions addressing development challenges across key areas:

Engineering and Technology

Smart Agriculture

Climate Change Solutions

Smart Administration and Anti-Unemployment Applications

Health, Nutrition, and Healthcare Systems

Smart Applications in Courts and E-Governance

Clean Energy and Multi-Purpose Technologies

Clean Water and Sustainable Applications

A total of 38 student teams participated in the competition, competing over several weeks to present creative, impactful projects built on AI applications that contribute to sustainable development. Entries were evaluated using strict criteria, including:

Sustainable Impact (30%)

AI Innovation and Practical Application (30%)

Marketability (20%)

Technical Presentation and Pitching Skills (20%)

To support young innovators, the university presidency allocated financial prizes of one million Iraqi dinars for the winning teams in each category.

The competition concluded with the announcement of ten winning teams across five main categories — Clean Energy, Smart Agriculture, Clean Water, Multi-Purpose Applications, and Health & Nutrition — while no teams qualified in the remaining fields.

The awards were presented in the presence of Governor Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi and University President Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, who praised the students’ creativity and their contribution to community service and sustainable innovation.

This Hackathon marks the first event of its kind in Iraq to witness such a high level of student participation in AI-driven sustainable development, reflecting Al-Mustaqbal University’s deep commitment to nurturing young talent and empowering the next generation to build a more promising and sustainable future for the nation.
