Al-Mustaqbal University Strengthens Its Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals Through Participation in the First International Conference on Sustainable Engineering at Tikrit University

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and with the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, Dean of the Engineering Technical College, a university delegation participated in the First International Conference on Sustainable Engineering, hosted by Tikrit University on 13–14 May 2026, with the attendance of a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and experts from Iraq and abroad.
The university was represented by Professor Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed, Director of the Energy Research Center, and Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Maytham Obaid, Head of the Scientific Affairs Division. The delegation actively engaged in scientific sessions and specialized discussions, while also exploring research exhibitions, patent showcases, and innovative scientific projects presented during the conference.
The participation included a series of productive meetings with prominent academic and international figures, most notably Mr. Sit Fung, representative of UNESCO. Discussions focused on advancing higher education through digital transformation and artificial intelligence technologies, in line with the requirements of sustainable education and institutional capacity building. The delegation also met with Dr. Ziad Shaaban, Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovation and Development at the American University of Baghdad, to explore opportunities for collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, discussions were held with Professor Dr. Aouni Shaaban regarding the latest global practices in green architecture and smart cities.
This participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), through the promotion of scientific research, knowledge exchange, and engagement with leading international experiences.
The university delegation affirmed that this participation represents an important step toward expanding academic and scientific partnerships, fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability, and enhancing the educational and research environment, thereby strengthening Al-Mustaqbal University’s presence and impact within regional and international scientific communities
