The second day of the “Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability” Camp commenced this morning at the Babylon Tourist Resort, held under the patronage and presence of Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Babylon, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. The event witnessed wide participation from academic leaders, government officials, students, and representatives of the Babylonian community.
The day began with the raising of the Iraqi flag and the national anthem, followed by a parade of Iraqi flags and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) banners. The student contingents representing various university colleges then marched in a vibrant display reflecting the spirit of national belonging and the cultural and scientific diversity of Al-Mustaqbal University.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, the Governor of Babylon, praised Al-Mustaqbal University’s pioneering initiatives in serving the community and strengthening national identity. He commended the university for becoming a model in adopting sustainability principles and empowering youth through innovative programs, foremost among them this distinguished camp.
Speaking on behalf of the University Presidency, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, welcomed the attendees, affirming that the “Ambassadors for Sustainability” Camp represents “an open platform for culture, creativity, and dialogue, where students express their vision for a brighter and more sustainable future.”
Dr. Al-Zuhairy emphasized that sustainability is not merely an academic option but a national duty and a human mission, highlighting the university’s recent achievements — including its advanced global positions in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), its recognition as Iraq’s top private university at the 2024 Iraqi Science Day, and three global awards from Clarivate for excellence in engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, and agricultural and veterinary sciences.
The day also featured the announcement of the winners of the “Future Hackathon for AI Applications for Sustainability”, which covered key fields such as smart agriculture, health and nutrition, healthcare systems, clean water, and energy, alongside several multi-purpose AI solutions.
In addition, the University Excellence Awards were presented in several categories — scientific research, infrastructure and projects, sustainability, student activities, and assessment examinations — where the winners were honored in the presence of the Governor and the University President.
The program concluded with an artistic performance presented by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, depicting the journey of Mesopotamian queens throughout history, blending art, heritage, and national identity in a captivating scene.
The event was attended by a number of prominent academic figures, including Prof. Dr. Amin Al-Yasiri, President of the University of Babylon, and Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmed Artuğan, President of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (Turkey), as well as a large group of government officials, assistants, deans, professors, students, and members of the local community, who praised the exceptional organization and intellectual depth of the camp.
The “Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability” Camp stands as one of the most distinguished initiatives reflecting Al-Mustaqbal University’s vision of youth empowerment and its leading role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), consolidating its position as a pioneering university that integrates science, innovation, and community service.
