In an unprecedented scientific and historical achievement, Al-Mustaqbal University has secured a groundbreaking global accomplishment—becoming the first Arab and Iraqi university to top the international rankings issued by the UK-based Times Higher Education for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically in Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy for All.
The announcement was made during an official ceremony held on Tuesday in Istanbul, attended by representatives of academic and research institutions from around the world. The event unveiled the results of the Times Impact Rankings for SDGs 2025, which assess the performance of universities in meeting the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the results, Al-Mustaqbal University ranked first globally in the "Clean Energy" category, surpassing hundreds of international universities. This marks the first time in the history of Iraqi and Arab higher education that such an achievement has been recorded in this field. The university also ranked first nationally in Iraq, and scored notable positions in several other SDG categories, including:
• Goal 1 (No Poverty): 1st in Iraq, ranked in the 101–200 band globally
• Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being): 2nd in Iraq, ranked in the 101–200 band globally

• Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation): 1st in Iraq, ranked 60th globally
• Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): 1st in Iraq and worldwide
