The "First Cybersecurity Forum 2025" kicked off today, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, under the theme "Towards a Safe and Sustainable Internet," coinciding with Safer Internet Day. The forum addressed several key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting the growing importance of digital security in the era of advanced technology.
This is the first and largest event of its kind in Iraq focused on cybersecurity, gathering a distinguished group of academics, experts, government officials, and representatives from other related sectors. The forum aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s objectives to enhance collaboration between universities, government ministries, and various institutions, thus contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The forum included workshops and discussion sessions that reviewed the latest national initiatives in the field of cybersecurity, with several prominent speakers from various government ministries and security institutions. Notable speakers included:
Colonel Dr. Hassan Hadi Lathid, Director of the Cybersecurity Center at the Ministry of Interior.
Representatives from the Ministry of Communications: Dr. Moamer Nafeh Mohammad and Dr. Mohammad Fares Mohammad.
Representatives from the National Security Service and the Ministry of Oil: Dr. Mustafa Sadiq Al-Jumaili, an expert in cybersecurity.
Mr. Mustafa Al-Mousawi, a cybersecurity specialist.
The forum also featured interactive workshops and an exhibition showcasing student projects in cybersecurity, highlighting the innovative technical solutions presented by students, which reflect the high level of academic excellence at the university.
The forum aims to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, introduce the latest solutions and technologies to combat digital threats, and promote collaboration between academic institutions and specialized sectors to ensure a safer digital environment.
