As part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences organized a scientific workshop titled "Water Sports: A Platform for Environmental Awareness and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals."
The workshop highlighted the significance of aquatic ecosystems, which cover more than two-thirds of the Earth's surface and contain 97% of the planet's water resources. Discussions emphasized their crucial role in global food security, climate regulation, and greenhouse gas absorption, alongside the fact that approximately 3 billion people worldwide depend on marine and coastal resources as a primary source of livelihood, underscoring the need for sustainable conservation strategies.
Additionally, the workshop explored the pivotal role of water sports in promoting environmental awareness, emphasizing the importance of organizing sports events and activities that foster a greater understanding of marine ecosystem conservation and contribute to sustainability through responsible practices.
This initiative aligns with the university’s efforts to integrate sports, environmental awareness, and sustainable development, reinforcing the role of sports activities in supporting global efforts to protect natural resources and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
