As part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to internationalize higher education and strengthen Academic Mobility, a group of university students departed from Babylon Governorate to the United Kingdom to participate in a summer training programme focused on developing skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in Bristol, UK.
This initiative reflects the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, to strengthen academic partnerships with leading international universities, particularly British institutions, and to provide students and academic staff with high-quality international educational and training opportunities. These efforts contribute to enhancing the quality of higher education and strengthening the competitiveness of its graduates.
The current phase of the programme includes a group of students from the College of Engineering Technologies at Al-Mustaqbal University, who are participating in an academic experience combining theoretical learning with practical training. The programme aims to develop their competencies in Artificial Intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, while introducing them to contemporary academic practices and experiences within British higher education institutions and providing opportunities for direct engagement with an international university environment.
The programme represents an important extension of the University’s approach to transforming international partnerships from formal agreements into tangible academic and training experiences that enable students to acquire knowledge and practical expertise in global educational environments. It also enhances their ability to keep pace with rapid developments in the labour market and future technologies.
Al-Mustaqbal University emphasizes that opportunities for Academic Mobility and international training will not be limited to students of the College of Engineering Technologies. Similar opportunities will be progressively made available to students from various colleges and academic disciplines through subsequent training cohorts and diverse international academic programmes, thereby expanding the number of beneficiaries and fostering a culture of academic openness and knowledge exchange across the University.
The initiative also forms part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s active engagement in the Iraqi–British Academic Bridge Initiative, launched by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to strengthen networking and cooperation between Iraqi and British universities and to establish new pathways for collaboration in education, scientific research, knowledge exchange, and the sharing of expertise.
The initiative contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing international educational and training opportunities that develop students’ scientific and technical competencies and enhance the quality of educational outcomes.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by developing students’ capabilities in Artificial Intelligence, digital technologies, and innovation, while connecting education with technological advancement.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by strengthening students’ technical and professional skills and enhancing their readiness for future labour-market requirements.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering effective international partnerships between Iraqi and British academic institutions and promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
