Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, the University’s Sustainable Development Division organized an awareness activity on campus focused on waste management, as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and embed sustainable practices among students.
The activity included the distribution of educational brochures titled “Waste Management Policy,” highlighting the principles of the 4R approach: Refuse, Reuse, Recycle, and Reduce. These concepts were presented in a simplified manner to enable students to apply them in their daily lives, encouraging waste reduction, source segregation, and minimizing reliance on single-use products.
In this context, Ms. Esraa Khalid Kadhim emphasized that the University adopts an integrated approach to waste management, based on sorting at the source, supporting recycling initiatives, and transforming waste into useful resources, thereby contributing to a clean and healthy campus environment.
The activity witnessed positive engagement from students, who showed strong interest in the awareness materials and expressed their willingness to adopt these practices, reflecting a growing environmental consciousness and their role as active contributors to sustainability.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through sustainable waste management practices, Goal 13 (Climate Action) by reducing environmental impact, Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by improving the campus environment, and Goal 4 (Quality Education) through promoting environmental awareness and sustainability education.
Al-Mustaqbal University reaffirms its commitment to adopting best environmental practices and advancing a culture of sustainability, contributing to the development of a responsible generation capable of supporting sustainable development and environmental protection.
