Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the College of Administrative Sciences / Department of Finance and Banking organized a specialized scientific seminar titled: “The Financial and Economic Crisis in Iraq: Available Proposals and Solutions”, with the participation of a distinguished group of academics and experts, and a notable official and scientific attendance.
The seminar was opened with a speech on behalf of the University Presidency delivered by Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. He emphasized that addressing this topic reflects a strong academic awareness of one of the most significant economic challenges facing Iraq. He noted that the interconnection between financial and economic crises requires an active role from academic institutions in providing evidence-based and applicable solutions that contribute to sustainable development.
He further stated that universities are no longer solely educational institutions, but have become research and think-tank centers contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by preparing qualified human resources capable of managing economic crises, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and policymakers.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, Professor Dr. Haider Al-Dulaimi, welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of organizing scientific seminars that address national economic issues, highlighting their role in enhancing academic awareness and contributing to the development of sustainable economic solutions.
The seminar featured the participation of Mr. Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi, former Minister of Communications, and Assistant Professor Dr. Abbas Fadhil Risan from Al-Mustaqbal University. The session presented a comprehensive analysis of the main causes of Iraq’s financial and economic crisis, along with a discussion of several proposed reforms, including diversifying income sources, addressing structural imbalances, and improving economic management efficiency in line with sustainable development requirements.
This seminar is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s strategy to strengthen its academic and societal role, engage with major national issues, and present research initiatives that contribute to economic reform and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
