Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and in line with the university’s commitment to strengthening its scientific and national engagement and fostering collaboration with state institutions, the university participated, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in the inauguration ceremony of the new building of the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, affiliated with the Ministry of Water Resources.
The university was represented at the event by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering, in response to the official invitation extended by the Director General of the Authority, Dr. Eng. Wissam Khalaf Ubaid. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Aoun Diab Abdullah, along with advisors from the Prime Minister’s Office and a number of senior officials and experts in the water sector.
The event featured presentations highlighting national efforts to develop the dams and reservoirs sector and its vital role in enhancing water security and supporting sustainable development plans in Iraq through efficient water resource management and infrastructure development.
This participation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by supporting sustainable water resource management, Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the development of critical infrastructure, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening collaboration between academic and governmental institutions.
This engagement reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to playing an active role in supporting national development projects and enhancing institutional partnerships that contribute to sustainability and the advancement of vital sectors in Iraq.
