Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Professor Dr. Muthaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Al-Mustaqbal University organized, on Saturday, 25/4/2026, a comprehensive scientific event on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, reflecting its firm commitment to promoting a culture of creativity and protecting innovation within the academic environment.
The event commenced with a speech delivered on behalf of the University Presidency by Professor Dr. Muthaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, who emphasized that this global occasion represents a strategic platform for celebrating creativity as a fundamental pillar in building a sustainable knowledge-based economy. He stressed that the protection of intellectual property is no longer optional but a necessity for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, supporting creative minds, and transforming their outputs into applied projects with developmental impact.
The event featured a scientific workshop and a specialized seminar titled “Iraqi Patents: Data and Indicators,” presented by the Director of the Cultural Relations Department, Dr. Samir Badrawi. The session provided an analytical overview of innovation indicators in Iraq, highlighting the status of patents and opportunities for their development. It also addressed advanced topics, including mechanisms for protecting innovations, patent registration procedures, copyright and trademark rights, as well as strategies for investing ideas and transforming them into productive projects that support sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the event, a specialized exhibition was inaugurated, showcasing a number of patents by university researchers, along with innovative student projects in the field of artificial intelligence. These exhibits reflected the university’s scientific advancement and creative capabilities, reaffirming its leading role in supporting innovation and transforming knowledge into practical applications with tangible impact.
The discussions emphasized the importance of empowering researchers and inventors and strengthening partnerships between academic institutions and productive sectors, thereby contributing to transforming knowledge into real economic value, in line with the university’s vision of promoting academic excellence and innovation.
