Al-Mustaqbal University Celebrates Earth Day with Field Activities Promoting Environmental Sustainability

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, Al-Mustaqbal University celebrated Earth Day on Thursday, 23/4/2026, in a distinctive event characterized by a practical and field-based approach, with the attendance of the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, and the Dean of the College of Agricultural Technologies, Professor Dr. Mahdi Abdul-Kadhim Abdul, along with a group of faculty members and students.
This event reflects the university’s vision of moving from theoretical awareness to direct practical application of environmental sustainability concepts. The program included a series of purposeful field activities aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices. These activities included a visit to a natural botanical reserve, an overview of the greenhouse cultivation project, hydroponic farming experiments, as well as participation in planting seedlings within the university campus.
The event also focused on promoting the concept of sustainable transportation by encouraging the use of bicycles and scooters, reflecting the university’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and fostering eco-friendly mobility practices within the academic community.
In his speech during the ceremony, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi emphasized that such field initiatives represent a scientific and practical response to the environmental challenges facing the planet due to increasing pressures and the unsustainable use of natural resources. He also stressed the importance of leveraging global environmental occasions to strengthen awareness and instill sustainable behaviors among students.
He further commended the significant efforts of the Department of Diwan Affairs and the College of Agricultural Technologies in supporting and implementing various environmental projects and initiatives that have contributed to enhancing the concept of a sustainable university and establishing an eco-friendly campus environment.
This event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), through promoting environmental awareness, expanding green spaces, and encouraging sustainable lifestyles within the university campus.
Al-Mustaqbal University reaffirms its strong commitment to its academic and societal role in supporting sustainability pathways and preparing a conscious generation capable of protecting the environment and contributing to a more balanced and sustainable future.
