The “Sustainability Ambassadors” team at the College of Medicine, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a volunteer awareness campaign on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labor (June 12), aiming to shed light on the dangers of this phenomenon and the importance of addressing it within society.
The campaign was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, as part of his ongoing commitment to promoting community awareness on humanitarian and social issues. The event was supervised by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Walaa Louay Al-Falluji, and witnessed active participation from faculty members and students.
This initiative falls within the university’s efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education, and promoting decent work for all.
The campaign included educational messages directed at child laborers and their families, emphasizing the importance of education and children's rights, and calling for the creation of a safe environment that protects them from exploitation.
The campaign also stressed the urgent need to provide a safe and supportive educational environment that upholds children's rights and preserves their dignity.
It is worth noting that the number of children engaged in labor globally has reached 160 million, with nearly 79 million involved in hazardous work that poses serious risks to their health, safety, and development.
