In a new initiative reflecting a spirit of innovation and scientific excellence, Al-Mustaqbal University has successfully cultivated one of the most highly regarded edible fungi, the Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), recognized as the second most widely consumed mushroom worldwide after the white and brown varieties.

This mushroom is distinguished by its high nutritional value, serving as a rich source of vitamins and minerals. It notably contains the rare antioxidant Ergothioneine, known for its critical role in enhancing immune function and combating oxidative stress, thereby contributing significantly to human health.

This achievement forms part of the university’s ongoing efforts to support and promote environmentally friendly organic farming. Through various initiatives, the university has also succeeded in cultivating specialty crops such as yellow watermelon (rindless varieties), climbing watermelon, and other plant species that contribute to the enhancement of agricultural biodiversity and food security in Iraq.

Through this scientific and environmental commitment, Al-Mustaqbal University continues to strengthen its standing as a pioneering academic institution in the field of sustainable agricultural innovation, affirming that excellence is not merely a goal, but a continuous approach to its mission.
