On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts and Humanities, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific visit to the ancient city of Borsippa on Sunday, 27 September 2026, with the participation of a number of academic staff members and students from the department.
The visit aimed to utilize this global occasion to raise awareness of the importance of archaeological and cultural tourism, introduce students to Iraq’s archaeological sites and their rich civilizational heritage, and highlight the role of archaeological heritage in supporting cultural tourism and promoting greater appreciation of Iraq’s historical legacy.
The visit included a field tour of several archaeological landmarks in Borsippa, providing participants with an opportunity to explore their historical and civilizational significance. The activity also contributed to strengthening students’ practical experience by connecting academic knowledge with direct observation and field-based study.
The visit further provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with archaeological sites and develop a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving, documenting, and promoting cultural heritage. This supports the role of higher education in fostering community awareness of the value of protecting cultural heritage and safeguarding it for future generations.
The activity forms part of the scientific and cultural initiatives regularly organized by the Department of Archaeology at Al-Mustaqbal University, reaffirming the University’s role in promoting awareness of Iraq’s civilizational heritage, fostering a culture of archaeological and cultural tourism, and connecting academic education with the wider community and heritage sites.
