Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi , and within the university’s commitment to supporting digital transformation and enhancing sustainability concepts in knowledge management, the Continuing Education Center at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized training course titled: “Modern Cataloging and Installation of Koha Library Management System.” The course was held in cooperation with the Cataloging and Information Systems Center at the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, with the participation of library staff from all university colleges, on Monday, 20/4/2026.
The course, which extends over five consecutive days, aims to enhance the competencies of library personnel through an integrated training program that combines theoretical and practical aspects. It focuses on the latest digital cataloging techniques and the installation and management of the Koha system, one of the most widely used open-source library management systems globally, known for its flexibility and high efficiency in handling databases and electronic resources, thereby supporting digital transformation in the academic environment.
In this context, Professor Dr. Muntadhar Fadil Hassan, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, emphasized that this course represents a strategic milestone in modernizing university library systems. He noted that it contributes to enabling staff to keep pace with the rapid digital transformations in knowledge management, ultimately enhancing the quality of academic and research services.
He added that Al-Mustaqbal University continues to move steadily toward consolidating quality and technical integration concepts, and building an advanced educational environment that supports innovation and scientific research. He further stated that this initiative is part of the university’s direction to build effective knowledge partnerships, foremost among them the fruitful collaboration with the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine.
The course witnessed significant engagement from participants, who praised the advanced scientific content and the professional training approach, stressing the importance of continuing such specialized programs to develop university library systems in line with global standards and to enhance knowledge management efficiency within academic institutions.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by promoting digital transformation, fostering innovation in knowledge management, and strengthening institutional cooperation in the academic sector.
